We would like to tell you a bit about the history of our congregation. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt was formally organized on July 19, 1914 but actually began 3 years earlier in 1911 when Reverend L. Bollefer came to this area to serve Lutheran congregations in Bruno, Watson, Kylemore and Margo. The first services were held in homes of members, but soon the congregation decided to build a house of worship on the corner of 8th Avenue and 12th Street which was officially dedicated to the glory of God on July 6th, 1919.

Through two World Wars, the Great Depression and many other major world events, St. John’s faithfully served the Lord in the community of Humboldt by proclaiming the Gospel message of eternal salvation through faith in Christ. By the late 1970’s it was clear that there were some major repairs needed on the church and so it was decided to build a new church building. The new church, built at #1205-8th Avenue was dedicated in 1982 where it continues to this very day to proclaim God’s love to us in Christ.

Our work begins within the walls of our church, gathering together to worship each Sunday morning, but it goes well beyond that. Our attendees hear the word of God and are strengthened through fellowship with other believers. We actively share the Gospel through activities such as our children’s ministry, volunteering at the Soup Kitchen, monthly services as St. Mary’s Villa care home and much more.
